THE SA IS UNDER SCRUTINY - PART 2

Accessibility and Transparency

Cold Facts say they have tried me by telephone on several occasions, however, I have seen any numbers which can be traced to Cold Facts and Swedish TV4 (on my caller ID). Of course, I answer the phone when I have the opportunity and return calls to the caller when asked to do so. In addition, we have always asked Cold Facts to forward their questions to me via e-mail. The reason for this is simply because we have other tasks and for this reason is better for us to answer all questions by e-mail.

When it comes to openness and transparency, there’s a big difference between what we present to Cold Facts relative to reciprocated behavior. There is quite a difference between the questions they put to us in writing and the questions they posed to our people during the interviews conducted in remote locales.

Interview with the Commissioner (director) of The Salvation Army in Sweden

On several occasions the Cold Facts folk returned to the issue of wanting to interview Commissioner Marie Willermark or other leader from our headquarters. When we have spoken to our reluctance to grant such an interview, they have nevertheless returned to the issue. (The Commissioner assumed this top leadership role on her recent return from serving abroad and will naturally not be fully prepared to answer any and all questions – blog admin note. From an earlier SA post on this subject: Marie Willermark began her duties on 1 February, 2011 as leader of the Salvation Army in Sweden after having worked abroad during the past five years.

During her initial period on her return she will devote her energy to, among other things, traveling around the country and be introduced at strategic locations among the approximately 170 businesses/operations located throughout the country.

She will to the greatest extent during the first months focus on the internal workings, and therefore decline, under the present circumstances, an interview.)

They have also indicated interest in an interview with someone from the Red Shield Stores’ management, although they have previously received a negative answer to this request. They have also indicated an interest to film at the Red Shield collection site in Satra. We have previously denied this because of privacy and confidentiality for those who are employed there. The result was that the Cold Facts came unannounced and filmed the exterior.

Ethical Issues

The SA Ethics document has been the subject of great interest. We have published this document on our SA website and in previous articles. The new document is brief a framework in character and is not as detailed as the old one. For some reason, this has given rise to the paradox of the Cold Facts page and more detailed questions were asked. (Euthanasia, homosexuality, those who engage in homosexual acts can not be a SA soldier, and abortion concerns)

Interview with The Salvation Army world leader; The General

Cold Facts contacted The Salvation Army's International leader General Shaw Clifton and his Secretariat seeking an interview with him. When this was unsuccessful they sought an interview with the incoming General Linda Bond.
International headquarters has declined interviews and referred Cold Facts to The Salvation Army in Sweden.

Here are the answers The Salvation Army has provided the Cold Facts production team in response to their questions in recent weeks.

2011-03-03 from The Salvation Army

Regarding your desire to interview someone from our leadership, we are reluctant to move forward at this time.

We are eager to answer your questions in the least complex and unambiguous manner possible and as I have said before, I will make certain that you are provided the answers to your questions if you mail them to me beforehand. In that there are many complex issues I may need to discuss and seek information and input from several people who are best placed to provide the correct answers.

Check back if you have any further questions about our organization.

Sincerely,
Bert Ã…berg
