Hmm, this is not exactly what happened!
ReplyDeleteThe actual circumstances of this case is that when a very conservative Christian couple seeking to be foster parents were asked how they would respond to having a homosexual child put in their care they and the local authority asked the High Court for guidance. The High Court simply reiterated the law that no-one rights can be used as to trump the rights of another. In other words person A cannot use their rights for religious freedom to discriminate against person B on the grounds of sexuality. Conversely person B would not be able to discriminate against person A because they didn't agree with their religious position.
In the end they sided with the council because the issue was vulnerable children and they suggested that their needs carried more weight than those of adults in a position to foster.
Interestingly the case was pushed hard by a group that seems to be seeking 'proof' of an anti-Christian agenda in British society. Personally, I think we should be embracing it rather than seeking a return to a place of privilege as that seems the more Biblical viewpoint!
